My first trip to Lac St-Jean was certainly a memorable one.
Mom brought me to the bus terminal on Blvd. Charest. Heading off alone was quite an adventure. During that period, all buses on that route would make a stop at L’Etape, halfway between Quebec and Alma.
I was excited and happy that I would see my Grenier cousins.
At l’Etape I sat with 4 woodcutters who were coming back home from a job in Western Canada. My mom had given me 5 dollars to cover my expenses during the week’s vacation. When the server approached the table to take our orders, I really did not know what to say; my reaction was to say « La meme chose » (the same thing ).
The meal was superb but when I received the bill, 4.80$, now I had only 20 cents for the week. When I passed by the candies, I bought a Caramilk chocolate bar.
I was well treated at my uncle’s house. 'Twas a glorious trip.
